Oktoberfest is the world’s largest funfair held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It’s a 16-day festival running from late September to the first weekend of October — with more than six million people from around the world attending every year.
Oktoberfest started when Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810; citizens prepared for the festival, the royals planned the events to be held on the fields in front of the city gates. Horse races took place in front of the Royal Family would mark the close of the event, that was soon celebrated as a festival for the whole country. The decision to repeat the horse races the following year soon gave rise to the tradition of Oktoberfest.
Today the Oktoberfest in Munich is the largest festival in the world, with an international flavor characteristic of the 20th century. The festivities include the Grand Entry of the Oktoberfest Landlords and Breweries, the Costume and Riflemen’s Procession and a concert involving all the brass bands.

Oktoberfest in Wisconsin is one of the top 2014 festivals amongst the other states. Wisconsin boasts a 43.9% of residents with German heritage. With live music, food eating contests, races, and dancing, there’s lot to celebrate in October.
